Happy New Year to all our readers as we look ahead to a new year of Football and FANbase.
Editor and Writer Louis Byers will be visiting Portman Road in a special New Year's match as Ipswich take on visiting Brighton and Hove Albion. Ipswich boss Mick McCarthy could pick another unchanged side for the sixth match in a row with Campbell looking for his final match before returning to QPR. Reo-Coker and Hyam are both itching for a start in midfield.
Southend return to Roots Hall as they host second-placed Gillingham. Assombalonga is doubtful following recent injuries he picked up against D&R. Sturrock may look to make changes. Sturrock told the club website: “Our run was always going to come to an end but now there’s no better way for us to bounce back than with a win against a good Gillingham side. The atmosphere should be fantastic – I’m expecting a very good, but difficult game.”
Colchester look to pick up a win following their recent poor run of defeats. They visit Crawley Town for their New Year's match. Defender Thompson is suspended following his sending off against Brentford. Assistant manager Kinsella said: "We just want to get a win under our belts. Our performances have been getting more consistent and there were a lot of positives against Brentford in our last game."
In non-league, Braintree visit Cambridge in a match that was played at the Amlin recently, as Town lost 3-0 to the U's in the Conference Premier. Chelmsford are the visitors to the New Lodge as they take on Billericay Town. The Clarets have only lost once in seven matches (5W, 1D, 1L). Lower down in the non-league pyramid, Sudbury visit Wroxham, a team who lost 2-0 in their last match (versus Harlow).
