Chelmsford sack Pennyfather

Chelmsford City have sacked manager Glenn Pennyfather after nearly four years in charge after missing promotion in the Blue Square Bet South play-offs.

The Essex side lost Saturday's semi-final second leg against Salisbury 2-0 and were knocked out 2-1 on aggregate.

Speaking after Saturday's play-off defeat "Glenn has been a fantastic servant to our club and an extremely good man who has brought us a lot of joy over the years," said chairman Mansell Wallace. "It goes without saying that we wish Glenn every success for his future." Former Southend and Crystal Palace midfielder Pennyfather stepped up from assistant manager at Melbourne Stadium in the 2009-10 campaign.

“I'm hurting quite badly after this loss. I honestly felt it was our year.” Glenn Pennyfather
