Fleetwood sign Southend's Cresswell

Southend have confirmed that defender Ryan Cresswell has joined Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.

Ryan told previous boss Paul Sturrock last December that he had been unable to settle down south and wished to return north to be closer to his family. Despite this Ryan played a key role in Blues’ run to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final last season and was runner-up in the club’s Player of the Year award.

The Club respected Ryan’s difficulties and once the right offer was made for his services, felt it was right that he was given permission to discuss personal terms at Highbury Stadium.

We would like to thank Ryan for all his efforts during his season at Roots Hall and wish him the best for the future.

Ryan said: “I really enjoyed my time at Southend United. The lads and the fans were absolutely brilliant to me, I’m just disappointed last season didn’t end with promotion or a win at Wembley. Unfortunately I wasn’t really able to settle in the area and therefore wished to return north to be closer to my family. I’d just like to say thank you to all the fans for their support last season and wish Southend United all the best for the future.”
