Nick Haycock's Development Squad are edged out by Barry Corr's free-kick as Southend United win at Roots Hall.

Barry Corr stepped up and curled a shot past the wall and high into the net to Spiegel's left to give Southend the win over the Premier League side.

Lee almost gave the Hammers the lead when he sent a 20 yard shot inches past the left post and, in the 16th minute, the striker sent a well struck volley from a similar distance over the crossbar. Moncur had a shot blocked by keeper Bentley.

Despite the continuous chances from West Ham, Southend took the lead. Barry Corr, who signed a contract over the summer, curled a 20 yard free-kick in to the right hand side of the goal after Pelly Ruddock had brought down Timlin just outside the penalty area.

The Blues could have extended their lead in the 75th minute when Jack Payne curled a 20 yard shot straight at Spiegel.
