Hurst (above) could be absent for the start of the 2013/14 season following a knee injury he picked up in Madrid. |
He has been marked absent from the club's home friendly with Queens Park Rangers tonight and is set to be scanned this afternoon, our reports say.
But Brown feels Hurst could miss out on facing Plymouth Argyle on the opening day of the League Two campaign.
“We’re getting Kevan’s injury scanned today and will know more then but being realistic we have to admit he’s now doubtful for the start of the season,” said Brown.
“I want him to also accept the challenge of being a doubt for the Plymouth game but hopefully he’ll soon be back in action. When you have a small squad like we do it’s important to look after the players we do have and that’s certainly the case with Kevan.”
But midfielder Marc Laird and full-back Ben Coker should both be fit to play after being substituted off during the friendly against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
