Shrimpers draw with Madrid
Southend drew 1-1 with Real Madrid's C-team in a pre-season friendly at Madrid’s Training Complex on Wednesday morning.

Phil Brown’s side were up against Madrid’s upcoming youngsters and fell behind in the 8th minute when Daniel Bentley misjudged a free-kick into the box and Dani Suarez headed home.

The equaliser came with five minutes to go as Michael Timlin, who came in with 15 minutes to go for his first appearance since his leg break, played in Anthony Straker who crossed for Cubillas to head past the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, defender John White was named the club's captain ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Doherty signs for Tractor Boys
Ipswich, today, have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Waterford United player Jack Doherty on a two-year deal.

Boss Mick McCarthy said: "He trained in Ireland with us and wasn't embarrassed by being there and kind of stood out. There's a real potential in him. He needs to put some [weight] on."

Doherty becomes Town's ninth signing of the summer, and will be joining former Waterford forward Daryl Murphy at Ipswich: "If Jack does anywhere near as well as Murph has done then we will be delighted," added McCarthy.

O'Toole leaves U's for Bristol
John-Joe O'Toole has left the U's for Bristol Rovers.

The midfielder spent time at Rovers on loan last season and has now completed a permanent move to John Ward's side.

O'Toole signed for the U's in January 2010 and made a total of 76 appearances in his time in north Essex.

He has signed a three year deal at the Memorial Ground with former U's boss John Ward and current U's manager Joe Dunne feels the twenty four year old has made a good career decision.
