David October’s strike with the last kick of the game gave Town a 2-1 win over Gillingham at Priestfield. The teenage defender, nicknamed Rocco and in his first year as a pro, rifled in at the far post from Elliott Hewitt’s cross.
David McGoldrick opened the scoring for Town with his second goal of the pre-season campaign.
The frontman scored from the penalty spot in last week’s win at Crawley and it was from another set-piece that he found the net, albeit much further out.
Cody McDonald cancelled out McGoldrick’s strike early in the second-half in what was a competitive 90 minutes against the 2012/13 League Two champions.
Colchester 1-2 West Ham
Colchester United enjoyed the test of Premier League opposition on Tuesday night, as they fell to a narrow defeat against West Ham.
The visitors took the lead as a heavy touch from a backpass by Mark Cousins allowed Joe Cole to close down the U’s keeper and he blocked the ball into the empty net.
The Premier League side had started the second half the brighter, and keeper Adrian nearly got caught in a similar fashion to Cousins’ first half encounter with Cole, sending the visitors to a 2-0 lead.
And they got the rewards their efforts deserved when Jabo Ibehre powered home a header from a cross by the impressive Tosin Olufemi, deputising for Brian Wilson at right back.
Sudbury 4-1 Fakenham (att. 107)
A strong AFC Sudbury side outplayed Fakenham Town with a final scoreline of 4-1 against the Ghosts.
A deflected Jamer Baker shot and Carus strike from a Henshaw header gave Sudbury a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
Sudbury extended their lead after 40 minutes when Henshaw header in a shot from close range that deflected off a Fakenham player.
With 10 minutes left to play, Sudbury finished off the match with a fourth goal from Harrop, chipping home from the edge of the area.
Sudbury will be happy to pick up their first pre-season win and will be happy with their performance as they prepare for their upcoming match against King's Lynn.
