Chelmsford City have announced that they have been accepted into the Essex Senior League Res. division for this upcoming season.
The league’s reserve section will be one division next season, with a straight knockout shield at the end of the campaign, and Holdsworth explained: “It gives us the chance to protect the club from losing players coming up through the system. The club’s future must be in the City of Chelmsford and it forms part of a long-term project with the academy and college scheme.”
Saturday football will become a more regular occurrence for the reserves, and Holdsworth continued: “I think this shows a lot of maturity in the pursuit of excellence. Chelmsford City Football Club can get even stronger in the long term. I’ve met up with everyone concerned, including director of football Paul Hopkins, and we’re all keen to see this project progress.”
Hopkins himself added: “I’m also delighted with the new set-up, which is an excellent extension to our existing youth system. It enables the club to provide an opportunity to further develop players coming through the Eastern Junior Alliance and academy set-ups whilst also giving Dean the chance to look at potential local talent for the first team.”
