Devonshire aiming for 50 points

RAINTREE Town manager Alan Devonshire has aimed for his squad to achieve at least 50 points when their Skrill Premier season kick's off today away to Hereford.

only too aware that his team’s strength on paper will count for nothing when the Skrill Premier season kicks off on the pitch at Hereford United today.

Devonshire is pleased to have kept together the squad that recorded the club’s highest-ever league finish last year.

But he knows the reality of matching that ninth-place won’t be easy.

“I’d like to think keeping the squad together should help us,” he said.

“But you never know as it’s a tough league. We have done better than expected since coming up into this league.

“And that adds more pressure,” he said.

“I’m a realist and my aim is still to get to 50 points. If we can make a good start and get there quicker, then there may be other targets.

“Last year we had to make changes over the summer and took time to settle, but this year we’ve been able to keep the squad together.

"So on paper it looks OK, but it is on the pitch that it counts and we won’t know until we get to Hereford.”

Iron striker Jordon Cox will miss the trip with an ankle injury.
