QPR's late goal from debutant Tom Hitchcock sent the Blues home in defeat after a wide-open match at Loftus Road.
Wright-Phillips crossed to Austin who shot with keeper Loach blocking to fall into the path of Hitchcock who tapped the shot from close range.
The goal came after 88 minutes of wide-open action - with both sides having a range of on-target shots.
Once again, Ipswich forward David McGoldrick was on fire, setting up and firing many chances towards goal but was unable to convert for Town.

From a Sheffield United corner, Colchester picked up the ball and sent it to the attackers. Watt sent up a perfectly timed pass to set up Sears to shoot past Long into the corner of the net.
Dickson could have made it 2-0 from an Eastmond free-kick but his shot was just wide.
Despite picking up a yellow card for Coady, the Blades got back on level when Brandy passed to Maguire to shoot from 30-yards out with U's keeper Walker fumbling the ball into his net.
The second half saw even play from both sides. Ibehre got the ball in the net for Col U, but he was marked offside by the official. The Blades also had a goal marked offside through a deflected goal from Taylor on the stroke of full-time.

Southend confirmed their third straight league win with a 2-0 victory over Northampton with goals from Straker and Eastwood.
Bentley saved a O'Donovan penalty early on in the first half, to keep a clean sheet.
Straker scored his first goal of the new campaign, giving Phil Brown's side a one-goal lead going into the second half.
The visitors were then reduced to ten men as Hackett slid in on Straker, giving Southend a 1-man advantage, with Hackett, already on a yellow, sent off for the Cobblers.
Eastwood fired in the second, setup by White, past Cobblers keeper Matt Duke to help Southend to victory.

Forshaw completed a brace after drilling home his second goal with a long range effort. Thompson controlled a high ball with his chest, sending into the path of Cowley before setting up Forshaw to strike.
