Opening day of League - 03/08/2013

Ipswich, Colchester and Southend all kick-off their league seasons today, away to Reading, away to Gillingham and home to Plymouth respectively.

Reading striker Nick Blackman will miss the season opener with Ipswich as he serves a one-match ban for an altercation with a steward last year. Meanwhile, Royston Drenthe, Wayne Bridge and Danny Williams, who have been away on international duty, could all make debuts for the Royals.
Ipswich's revamped squad has 10 new players including keeper Dean Gerken (right) and ex-Reading midfielder Jay Tabb. Defenders Christophe Berra and Frederic Veseli are also in contention. Eight players could make debuts for Town.

Summer signings Adebayo Akinfenwa, Amine Linganzi, Cody McDonald and Antonio German could all make debuts for Gillingham. Midfielder Charlie Lee is not expected to feature as he is on the brink of a move to Southend.
Colchester United will check on the fitness of summer signing Sanchez Watt (right). The former Arsenal striker picked up an injury during pre-season, but last season's 20th-placed side have no other fitness concerns for the trip to Priestfield.

Southend United are likely to be without keeper Paul Smith and midfielder Kevan Hurst due to the players picking up injuries. Midfielder Michael Timlin and new signing Craig Reid (right) may start on the bench.
Plymouth will be without suspended defender Maxime Blanchard as he starts the ban he picked up for his red card on the last day of the 2012-13 season.
Argyle boss John Sheridan has a tricky choice to make between Jake Cole and Luke McCormick in goal.

We also have two pre-season friendlies which we will preview in a separate article online soon.
