Shrimpers sign Thompson

Southend United have signed Watford defender Adam Thompson on loan until January. The 20-year-old's spell will end on January 4th.

Thompson played for Blues in the 1-0 friendly win over West Ham and has now joined officially.

Thompson featured ten time for Watford (2010-11) before making 22 appearances for Brentford on loan in the 11-12 season. He was then loaned out to Wycombe before having a brief loan spell at Barnet last season. The defender has also featured for the Northern Ireland youth and senior squads.

Phil Brown said: “With the injury to Julian Bennett and the departure of Chris Barker, there was a space in defence to bring someone in. Adam has played a number of games for Watford already, and spent time out on loan at the likes of Brentford so he comes here with some experience.

“He was impressive in the friendly against West Ham and I’m delighted he’s been able to join us.”

Adam will be available for selection for the club's match against Hartlepool United wearing shirt number 23.
