Ryan Swallow’s 91st minute strike sent AFC
Sudbury’s Reserves/Under-21s into the second round of the Suffolk Senior Cup,
after a 2-1 win over visitors Leiston St Margarets.
The Yellows took an early lead after four and a half minutes
when Fisher’s header looped over Leiston
keeper Connor Banthorpe, with the keeper not appearing to save the shot.
Sudbury produced a shot in the 21st minute, as a
long throw from Mark Bailey met Jake Jackson who fired wide.
In the 24th minute, there was a scare for the
hosts as a shot from Peskelt was blocked by AFC keeper Avenell, before he
caught the air-bound ball.
Leiston produced a shot in the 37th minute, as
Luke Webster’s strike hit the side-netting.
Leiston made a substitute after fourty-four minutes, as Luke
Webster was taken off injured for Callan Newman.

Sudbury’s first noteworthy chance of the second period fell
to Fisher, with his shot blocked by Banthorpe.
James Crisell was replaced by Lee Sharp, in the 63rd
minute. Ryan Nay came off for the visitors with Threadkell replacing the
midfielder in the 64th minute.
After 70 minutes, defender Darryn Van Oene’s strike hit the
crossbar for Leiston after travelling around Bailey; the ball was eventually
cleared away by the Yellows.
Three minutes after, build-up play from D. Van Oene, to
Walker, back to Van Oene saw his shot deflected away by Yellows captain Steve
Chisholm.
Andy Fisher took another chance, after good build-up play
from the right-wing saw his shot hit the cross-bar, and cleared away by
Leiston.
After continuous counter-attacks from the visitors, they
eventually took the lead, as a shot from Darryn
Van Oene curved over Yellow’s keeper Avenell, with the shot bouncing in
from under the crossbar in the 76th minute.
Two minutes later (78’), Leiston goal scorer Darryn Van Oene
was booked for an overreaction.
With four minutes of normal play left, Josh Yasar came on
for Matt Sharland for Leiston’s third change.
In the 89th minute, a powerful strike from Daniel
Statham was blocked, with goalkeeper Banthorpe making a superb save.
Sudbury’s pressure finally paid off in the 91st
minute, as Swallow tucked the ball past the goalkeeper in a 1-on-1 situation.
Sudbury made a final change, as goal scorer Fisher came off
for Tom Lait after the goal, to grab a few minutes of play.
The referee blew the whistle after 93 minutes to signal
victory for AFC, who progress through into the second round of the Senior Cup.
