Symons (seen right) scored a wonder goal against
Woking last season for the Iron.

The 25-year-old had only made one appearance for the Iron in the current Skrill Premier campaign - as a 70th minute substitute in the 1-0 home defeat by Kidderminster Harriers - but appeared 35 times last season and his only goal was a stunning strike against Woking.

Symons had been at the Amlin Stadium for three seasons and played a part in Braintree's elevation to the Conference Premier as they won the Conference South title in 2010/11 under their then manager Stringer.

He said: “Without a doubt it was a very tough decision.

“I’ve gone into my fourth year with Braintree and get on very well with the players, staff and fans so it was tough.

“But there are a couple of factors I had to consider.

“There are some long away trips you have to do in the Conference, but my fiancĂ©e has just given birth to our first child and I didn’t want to miss out on spending important time with them.

“I also work full-time and the Conference is a very demanding league, but dropping down a league will give me more time to spend with my family.
