Long Melford 2-2 Sudbury Res (SUDBURY WIN 4-2 ON PENS)

Sudbury’s Reserves/Under 21s secured a position in the second round of the Red Insure Challenge Cup after beating Long Melford 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw after extra time.
After good build up play from the Yellows, a throw-in from Mark Bailey was headed away by a Melford defender. The resulting corner was sent into the box, and after flying past the keeper, the ball was met by skipper Steve Adams who shot the ball while on the volley.
In the 43rd minute, the Villagers drew level; Sloots crossed to Skrose before he setup Durey who fired past visiting keeper Avenell.

Sudbury began the second half dominantly, with Fisher’s shot from 25-yards out just wide of the target. Almost immediately after, the hosts sent out a spell of attack; Rowe sending a powerful cross to Momanod although the AFC defence were able to clear the ball.
Sudbury’s first substitution came in the 65th minute, with Statham replacing Brazitis .
The Yellows re-took the lead in the 84th minute. Following a strong attack from the Yellows, the ball was crossed to Swallow with his shot blocked by goalkeeper Hastie; the ball landed in the path of Blake Kicks who fired it home.
A minute later, Antonny Corderio replaced Tom Lait for Sudbury’s second change.
AFC thought they had won it in the 86th minute, with Steve Adam’s strike, in the net, marked offside by the linesman.
In the 89th minute, Melford’s Michael Owen, took a shot towards goal, but flew way off of Avenell’s goal.
But in added time, the hosts pulled themselves back in the game. Ashley Sloots’s shot from Nathan Rowe’s cross landed in the back of the net following poor defending from AFC.

Antonny Corderio had a shot after 3 minutes was deflected away by a home defender for a corner. The resulting corner was headed away by Toole.
Good work between Rowe and Momanod saw a shot by Momanod go wide for the hosts.
Ryan Swallow had a good chance on goal after 10 mintues, with his shot blocked, before being caught following good build-up play.
A shot from Rowe for the Melford side goes wide of the target, while Statham shot for the Yellows was saved.
Half-time of Extra time: AFC Sudbury Reserves/Under 21s 2 Long Melford 2
A Long Melford attack setup by Naugh saw a shot from Skrose curve wide of goal in the 21st minute. Bardes and Parker both came on for Long Melford in the 23rd minute.
Statham crossed the ball in the direction of Kicks, who was unable to control his shot towards goal.
The final piece of action saw Parker send the ball towards Bardes, with his shot deflected away by Mark Bailey in the 29th minute of extra time.
Penalties
Statham opened the penalties for Sudbury, slotting his shot past Hastie who went the alternate direction, while Harvey’s shot was saved. 1-0 to AFC.
Benham scored Sudbury’s second penalty, while Durey slotted home for the hosts. 2-1 to AFC.
Sudbury’s third penalty was scored, while Owen scored for the hosts. 3-2 AFC.

Crisell scored the Yellows fourth penalty, before Newton’s penalty was saved by Avenell, sending Sudbury into the second round of the Red Insure Cup. 4-2 win on penalties.
