Southend boss Phil Brown insists that his players, getting ready for the Boxing Day clash at AFC Wimbledon, will be put through their paces on Christmas Day. The Blues boss insists that the squad must prepare properly for the clash at the Kingsmeadow Stadium.
“It’s just another day for us really and we have to make sure we are as prepared as we can be for AFC Wimbledon game so we’ll all be in on Christmas Day,” said Brown.
“Christmas is very much a time for families but I actually see the squad here as a second family now and I think most people would agree with that. The spirit is fantastic so we’ll all be in tomorrow, we’ll be making sure we’ve done all we can to be in the best possible shape and then we’ll be looking forward to the game on Boxing Day.”
Will Atkinson feels the Roots Hall side must start to hit the back of the net on a more regular basis if they are to push for promotion this season.
And Atkinson is therefore keen to for more players to start chipping in with goals, starting with the Boxing Day clash at AFC Wimbledon.
“I do feel that more of us need to start getting the goals, including us in midfield, to help us pick up more good results,” said the Blues player.
“Kevan Hurst is on fire at the moment and has scored eight goals while Anthony Straker has got a few as well.
“But it’s up to the rest of us now to share around the goals a bit more.”
