Cresswell and Marriott extend contract with Town

Defender Aaron Cresswell has signed a new contract with Ipswich Town, extending his terms to June 2017.

The 23-year-old has been repeatedly linked with Premier League clubs this week, with West Brom said to be watching him this week. Manager Mick McCarthy believes he is the best left-back in the Championship.

The former Tranmere player told the club site: “I had about 18 months to run on my contract so obviously I’m delighted to have extended that.

Cresswell signed a new contract at the club yesterday.

“I am really enjoying my football here. There is a good feel about the place and it’s enjoyable coming to work every day.

“I feel I have progressed as a player and like any professional, I want to get to the top and that means playing in the Premier League. Hopefully I can do that with Ipswich.”

The Liverpudlian, who is 24 on Sunday, joined Town on July 1st 2011 at the end of his contract with Tranmere. A tribunal set terms which eventually saw the Blues pay Rovers £420,000 after a number of top-up clauses were triggered. The League One club are entitled to 20% of the profit Town make on any future sale.

Elsewhere, the Blues have confirmed that striker Jack Marriott has signed an 18-month contract. The 19-year-old, whose previous terms were up at the end of the season, has scored seven goals in six games while on loan at Woking.

Marriott told the club site: “Obviously I’m delighted to have been offered a new contract.

"It’s what I’ve been aiming for, to win a new deal, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m really enjoying my time on loan at Woking and I’m scoring a few goals.

Mariott has played at Conference side Woking in six games, scoring seven times
including a hat-trick.
