Sannino was appointed as Watford's new manager on Wednesday in the wake of fellow Italian Gianfranco Zola's resignation, with the Hornets winless in nine matches.
Colchester winger Sanchez Watt has been cleared to travel to Oldham after four months out with a thigh problem.
U's midfielder Marcus Bean and defender David Wright should be fully fit, while defender Brian Wilson is available after serving a one-match suspension.
Manager Joe Dunne: "I'm looking for a positive reaction from the team, a willingness for the team to walk out and chase things down, and if it doesn't go well, to regroup and go again.
"We've done that this season but we didn't do it Saturday. It's not even Christmas yet, so there still another half of the season so we'll stay focused."
