Goals from Swallow, Thurgood and Fisher including a
first-half brace from Golding saw the Sudbury Reserves team beat Great Yarmouth
Town 5-0 at the MEL Group Stadium.
The Yellows were full of chances, straight from the start.
Jackson sent the ball to Fox who crossed to Swallow who hit his shot wide.
Fox crossed a shot into Swallow, after the Yarmouth defence
made a poor clearance, but Yarmouth could only hit a shot wide. Swallow took a
free-kick for Sudbury, six minutes later following a foul, with the keeper
diving to the left to produce a good save.
In the tenth minute, Pete Oldham replaced the injured
Anderson for the Bloaters.
In the 12th minute, Swallow attempted to cross
the ball in the box but his touch was too light and easy for the visitors to
clear the ball.
Smith hit a shot in the 14th minute for the
Yellows, but hit the crossbar; a sight that would be too frequent throughout
the match.
In the 17th minute, AFC eventually took the
lead. Crisell crossed the ball into Golding who slotted the ball past Town keeper
Cable.
In the 30th minute, Yarmouth received a corner
which was headed away by defender Bailey.
Jackson setup the ball for Golding, who fired the ball past the goalkeeper Cable, to give the
Yellows a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute.
In added time of the first half, skipper Adams picked up a
booking for a foul.
Half-time: AFC Sudbury Reserves/Under 21s 2-0 Great
Yarmouth Town First
Sudbury started the second half brightly, with a shot from
debutant Scott Kemp, which curled over the crossbar.
Yarmouth’s performance improved
throughout the second-half, with a shot in the 64th minute from
Watts headed away by Bailey.
The two sides made substitutions
as Thurgood replaced Golding for AFC while Nelson came on for Bryanton for the
visitors in the 70th minute.
The Yellows earned a corner in
the 73rd minute which was taken by Swallow. Bailey headed the high ball down,
with Yarmouth’s defence clearing the loose ball.
In the 75th minute, Sudbury
made their remaining substitutions as Fisher and Chisholm came on for Crisell and
Smith.
After several attacking stints by
the Yellows, the ball was crossed into substitute Thurgood who struck the ball
past Cable.
After promising build-up play
between Fisher and Swallow, the substitution made a reaction by firing the ball
past Town keeper Cable to give the Yellows a 4-0 lead in the 83rd
minute.
In stoppage time, Town defender
Jones took down Fisher just outside the box. The referee awarded a penalty
which Swallow stepped up to take and easily struck the ball the opposite way of
Cable.
The referee blew the whistle to
signal an excellent league win for the Yellows.
