Kevan Hurst's first half strike earned Southend a point in a 1-1 draw with Rochdale, in an even affair at Roots Hall, last night.

Jamie Allen opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute with a fine curling effort from the edge of the box.

Kevan Hurst levelled for Blues on the stroke of half-time. Bentley’s kick was headed on by Barry Corr to Michael Timlin who setup the midfielder for his eight goal this season.

Both sides had chances in the second-half but were made to settle for a point that kept Blues above Dale on goal differ
ence.
