Colchester have confirmed this afternoon that midfielder Alex Gilbey has signed a new contract with the club, that keeps him at the Weston Homes until the summer of 2016.
The Dagenham-born midfielder captained the youth team from 2011 before he made his first-team appearance in a League Trophy match against Northampton Town, a year later.
He recorded a loan spell with Welsh club Newport County, and played as part of the team which won promotion to League Two.
Dunne was pleased with the signing: "It's great that we have secured Alex's services for the next two and a half years."
