Southend boss Phil Brown says his team need to get ‘back to basics’ as they look to get back to winning ways, following two consecutive defeats.

The Blues have conceded five goals in their last two games, and Brown is looking for his side to pick up a clean sheet, along with a good performance, ahead of the visit of his former club Hartlepool United on Tuesday evening.
With the gap between Blues and Hartlepool at six points, with a game in hand, Brown says it is a real six pointer.
He said: “I’m a manager that is more than happy to win every game 1-0, so it’s been very frustrating in the last couple of games, conceding five goals.
“We have been built on a solid defence for much of the season, so it’s disappointing, and we’ll be working hard at training on Monday, working on our shape.
“We need to try and get back to basics. We’ve done very well for a lot of this season playing the way we know best, and it’s paid off, so we need to get back to that.
“Hartlepool have picked up their form and have done well. My scout came back on Saturday and said it was never a 3-0 win though, but again, it’s a clean sheet that they’ve built from.
“Having closed the gap on us, it’s a big game and a six pointer for us in terms of moving clear of the rest. That said, we’re still looking at the six teams above us rather than the ones below.”
