Colchester's relegation woes continued as they lost 1-0 to Oldham Athletic, as the U's edge closer to the play-offs.

The U's are now only two points off the play-offs, and could have steered away if they beat Oldham, but it wasn't to be.

The only goal of the match saw Oldham score on the stroke of half-time as Connor Brown's driven cross deflected off Eastman's boot and looped over Walker.

The unmarked Freddy Sears saw his header over the bar from Alex Gilbey after 5 minutes in one of Colchester's best chances of the first-half.

Colchester should have equalised from the restart as Massey's shot was deflected away for a corner. The resulting corner saw Ibehre unlucky to tuck the ball home before Wilson's low cross was claimed by the Oldham keeper Rachubka goalkeeper.

Two goals from Norwich City loanee Jacob Murphy helped Southend beat automatic-promotion searchers Rochdale 3-0.

The win sees the Blues keep up the pressure on their fellow play-off searchers, as they stay in sixth position, and would play Burton.

The Blues took the lead as good work by Jacob Murphy saw the Norwich loanee setup for Barry Corr who tapped into an empty net after 11 minutes.

An excellent break from Will Atkinson sent the ball to Leonard before Murphy collected the ball and scored.

And Southend increased their lead straight from kick-off to go three-nil up: Leonard's ball was headed on by Corr to find Hurst who cross to Michael Timlin who finished past Dale goalkeeper Lillis. The goal came after 11 seconds from the restart.

A 35 yard shot from Ryan Leonard saw his shot bounce off the woodwork and eventually cleared by a Dale defender, in the second-half.

Braintree Town continued their play-off hopes as they beat Dartford 1-0, to keep them in 6th, just outside the play-offs after results went against the Iron.

A late equaliser for Gateshead in their match at home to Southport saw them gain a point, which was enough for Gatehead to climb back into fifth position and drop the Iron out to sixth.

Kenny Davies scored the only goal of the match as his superb volley was setup from the cross of Sean Marks in the 23rd minute.

Iron substitute Cox went close on 64 mins with a header but it went wide.

But in the fifth minute of injury time, a Dartford throw-in from King met Stevenson who fired straight at keeper Nick Hamann before Suarez's rebound effort was once again blocked by the Iron keeper, making a fantastic double save.
