Ipswich's play-off hopes were ended as they lost by a goal to nil away to already promoted Burnley.
Michael Kightley's 59th minute strike separated the two sides, after slotting the loose ball in off Ings' original effort which was blocked by Blues keeper Gerkin.
Paul Taylor's free-kick was one of Town's best efforts of the afternoon, but saw Tom Heaton push the ball away, while Richardson's volley and Smith's header were also excellent chances blocked by the goalkeeper.

Dan Sparkes went close early on from a free-kick for the hosts, but Grimsby picked up six bookings during the match. The two sides had more than 20 shots throughout the 90 mins.
The Iron needed to beat Grimsby and hope that either Halifax or Gateshead lost to secure a play-off place, but they missed out.
Grimsby will now face Gateshead in the play-off semi-finals, played over two legs over the next month before the final at Wembley.
Weston-Super-Mare 2-0 Chelmsford

The Seagulls took the lead, heading into half-time, as Dayle Grubb slotted past Pentney after 42 minutes.
Substitute Brad Ash doubled Weston's lead, with a 62nd minute strike after coming on for Alec Fiddles, ten minutes earlier.
The Woodbridge Stadium based side finished their season in 11th while the Clarets finished in 17th place, four points off the drop zone.
FEATURE MATCH: Barkingside 1-4 AFC Sudbury

AFC took a 2-0 lead into half-time, courtesy of a brace from Ollie Hughes: Hughes headed home from a corner after 29 minutes before slotting home past 'Side keeper Tim Pitman, in a one-on-one situation.
Payton Swatman slotted home in the 62nd minute, despite calls for an AFC penalty moments before being waved away after a player was pulled down.
17-year-old Blackwell confirmed the win for the visitors, after firing past the goalkeeper in the 79th minute.
However, the Side pulled back a consolation goal, through Chris Taylor's 89th minute effort, but 'the Reds' held on for the win.
The win puts Sudbury in ninth position, with the club seeing the final table position as a massive improvement on last season's 17th position finish.
The match was Barkingside's final game to be played at Oaksides, which is now under the ownership of Redbridge F.C., and will move to Cricklefield Stadium ahead of next season.
