Marc Laird: Former Southend midfielder joins Tranmere

Tranmere Rovers have signed midfielder Marc Laird on a one-year contract, following his departure from Southend United this summer.

The 28-year old left Southend United in May after scoring once in 34 games in one season, and has been training with Rovers.

Marc Laird could face his former club following Tranmere's relegation to League Two.

Laird started his career at Premier League side Manchester City in 2006, where he had loan spells at Northampton and Port Vale. He moved to London based Millwall, being a part of the promotion side to the Championship. He later had loan spells at Brentford and Walsall before joining Leyton Orient, and then signing for Southend in Jan 2013.
