A last-minute strike from Anthony Wordsworth sent Ipswich to a 2-1 victory over East Anglian rivals Southend United.

Striker Freddie Eastwood featured in the opening thirty seconds before being substituted off in his final appearance for Southend, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd.

Town took the lead in the second half through trialist and substitute Kevin Bru, who slotted past Shrimpers goalkeeper Paul Smith.

Summer signing Miles Weston, who came on as a substitute, equalised for the hosts in his first touch of the game, as he slotted past visiting keeper Bialkowski.

Town Substitute David McGoldrick, who returned from injury for the match, saw his long range effort blocked by home 'keeper Ted Smith.

But substitute Anthony Wordsworth scored in the final touch of the game to win the match for the Suffolk visitors.

Luton Town 2-2 Colchester

Colchester earned a 2-2 draw with newly-promoted League Two outfit Luton Town, in their latest pre-season friendly.

Luton took the lead in the 26th minute as Lafayette's original strike was palmed away by U's goalkeeper Walker, into the path of Cullen who converted.

However three minutes later, the U's were level as Ibehre's off-target strike met Connolly who tapped the ball into his own net.

And six minutes into the second half, United took the lead, as Sears sent the ball to Ibehre who adjusted his shot and chipped over the Town 'keeper.

Former U's player Luke Guttridge drilled home from close range to equalize for the Hatters.

Braintree 0-2 West Ham United XI

A brace from West Ham striker Elliott Lee secured a 2-0 win for the Hammers over Braintree Town, in a pre-season friendly.

Elliott Lee gave the Hammers the lead at the end of the first half, with a strike in the 42nd minute.


And Lee doubled West Ham's lead, as he scored in the 59th minute.

Kenny Davies saw his late 87th minute penalty saved by visiting goalkeeper Tim Brown.

The defeat comes after a Braintree XI beat Kingstonian 3-2 on Monday night.

Chelmsford continued their preparations for the new season as they played out a goalless stalement with Ryman North side Heybridge Swifts.

City hit the woodwork in the 37th minute as Cheek hit the ball, with a deflecting seeing the ball hit the bar but was cleared away.

The Clarets felt they should have had a penalty in the 59th minute when Cheek fell under a soft challenge from Collis with the referee waving away the calls.

AFC Sudbury 1-1 Felixstowe & Walton United

AFC Sudbury drew 1-1 with Suffolk neighbours Felixstowe and Walton United in their latest pre-season friendly at the Wardale Williams Stadium.

Jake Reed gave AFC the lead after eight minutes, striking his rebound effort from 12 yards out, after his original strike was blocked by the visiting goalkeeper.

But in the 24th minute, the visitors equalised as a powerful attack saw the ball meet Ryan Clark who volleyed the ball home past AFC goalkeeper Alex Archer.
