Matchday Preview - Tue 05 Aug 2014 (Pre-Season Friendlies)

AFC Sudbury vs Ipswich Town XI

AFC Sudbury will play their final home pre-season friendly on Tuesday as they host an Ipswich Town XI at the Wardale Williams Stadium (K/O 7.45pm).

A youth side, similar to the team who beat Chelmsford City on Friday, will be expected to face David Batch's Ryman North side, with his squad 'seemingly now settled'.

The Ipswich squad, an Under-21s team, include the likes of summer signing Darren McQueen, Byron Lawrence, Michael Crowe and Ted Bishop.

A Blues XI squad beat Chelmsford City's first team 4-2 on Friday night, which Sudbury's most recent friendly involving the first team saw them lost 3-1 to Cambridge, also on Friday.

Peterborough Northern Star v Braintree Town

Braintree Town will conclude their pre-season schedule as they travel to United Counties Premier side Peterborough Northern Star (K/O 7.45pm).

The match will be played in memory of supporter Jimmy Owen who died last year, with Town boss Alan Devonshire, a friend of the Owen family, expected to bring a first team squad to the Mick George Arena.

The Iron's previous friendly saw them beat Wealdstone by a goal to nil, courtesy of Dan Walker's 34th minute effort. Meanwhile, 'the Star' lost 6-1 at home to Holbeach United, a game which saw the hosts see red twice. Any red cards picked up in pre-season do not affect competitive fixtures, but may result in players missing any future friendly matches.

The match was originally called off earlier in July due to a fixture clash which postponed the match.
