The Irish-born midfielder quickly progressed through the youth ranks of Shelbourne, and eventually made his debut as a substitute in a league fixture against Waterford United back in January this year.
McDonnell has featured for the Republic of Ireland national team at various youth levels, including Under 16 level where he scored against Estonia.
