REPORT: AFC Sudbury Reserves/U21s 3-3 March Town Utd (and weekend's results)

Two goals within a minute saw AFC Sudbury Reserves come from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 against March Town United, at a rainy Wardale-Williams Stadium in the Thurlow Nunn First Division.

Sudbury had the upper hand from kick-off, with Tom Wingfield sending the ball into the path of Alex Breadman, who lost the ball to a defender.

Scott Kemp saw his third minute shot parried away by March keeper Dave Beeny, who dived down afterwards to claim the loose ball, before Alex Breadman fired a shot over the crossbar afterwards.

March Town won a controversial penalty in the tenth minute as Tyler Kemp brought down Denny Escorcio on the edge of the box. Dan Woods stepped up and confidently converted the penalty, to the right of AFC goalkeeper Louis Johnston.

The Yellows survived a scare, in the 14th minute, as Dan Woods beat several AFC defenders, and curved around Johnston, to send the ball goal-bound but Ollie Rumsey was on hand to deflect the effort away.

The Yellows equalised in the 28th minute, as a corner was whipped into the box by Jordan Brazitis and Mark Ray (pictured) headed the ball home past Beeny.

March, in an orange and black kit, won a free-kick in the 38th minute, as Jordan Goult’s effort hit the Sudbury wall, with the rebound effort not troubling AFC’s Johnston.

Just before the end of the half, defender Tyler Kemp left the field with a nose injury, after a collision, and was replaced by Jack Tolhurst, making his home debut for the Reserves.

AFC made their second change at the break as Alfie Carroll came on for Tom Wingfield.

The Yellows came out for the second period full of optimism, with Joe Chester winning the ball in midfield, and sending the ball to Scott Kemp, who saw his powerful shot punched over the crossbar.

In the 55th minute, Dan Wood put the Hares back in front, as his cross was deflected in by AFC’s Tolhurst, for an own goal. The Hares increased their lead in the 66th minute as Jordan Fiddes had an effort hit the post, before the ball bounced into the path of Juliano Menzes, who fired the ball into the empty net.

Alex Breadman came off for Josh Sheffield in the 68th minute.

In the 82nd minute, the home team pulled a goal back, as Mark Ray’s shot at the second attempt made it 3-2, before Scott Kemp got a great goal with a superb drive straight from the restart that levelled the scores for the home side.

The Yellows had a few chances late on to win the match, including an effort from Joe Chester, who thumped a free-kick over the crossbar.

Despite earning a point from the match, the Yellows remain in 18th in the First Division, and are next in action at Cornard United on Saturday.
