Alan Devonshire leaves Braintree

Alan Devonshire has left his post at Braintee Town, it was confirmed last week.

It was confirmed that the former West Ham player turned down a new contact, while assistant manager Keith Rowland also left his post.

In a statement, the club said the board offered Devonshire an extension to his contract, but Devonshire decline the club's offer.

Alan Devonshire joined the club in the summer of 2011, a few months after the club were promoted from the Conference South under Rod Stringer.

Devonshire guided Braintree to a sixth placed finish last season, the highest position in the club's history, only just missing out on the play-offs by a few points.

Reviewing the club's forums, many supporters were disappointed with his departure, with many fans spectulating that a female could take the post.

Academy manager Mark Sansom was in charge of the Iron's last match, and will take charge for the visit of Altrincham this evening (K/O 5.15pm).
