AFC’s first attack came straight after, as Mark Ray crossed
the ball towards Jordan Brazitis, but the visiting goalkeeper Craig Brand
rushed out and claimed the ball.
Bury’s first corner came in the third minute: Alfie
Bedingham curved the ball into the box, and Mark Ray headed the ball away for a
second corner. The effort was cleared by the AFC defenders.
Josh Kerridge was caught handling the ball outside the box, with the referee awarding a free-kick. The free-kick was delivered by Matt Skevingham, and met Dan Hammett, who sent the ball back to Skevingham, who had a shot caught by Johnson.
After ten minutes, AFC’s Harry Seal crossed the ball towards Mark Ray, who had a shot on-target, caught by Craig Brand.
A few minutes after, Johnny Kerridge did well to win the ball, and sent the ball to Ray, who delivered the ball into Jordan Brazitis, who ran into the box and had a shot which flew over the crossbar.
AFC had a great chance at the half-hour mark, as Gianfranco Mallardo passed the ball to Johnny Kerridge, who sent a long ball towards Josh Kerridge, who ran down the far wing, and delivered the ball back to Josh Kerridge, but the ball deflected off Bury’s Dan Hammett for a corner to the Yellows.
The ball was crossed in by Brazitis towards Josh Kerridge, who headed the ball just wide of the goal.
Three minutes later, Joe Chester curved a high free-kick into the box, which was held well by Craig Brand.
AFC survived a scare in the 38th minute, as David Lampshire beat Kyran Clements to the ball, and had a shot, on-target, which was deflected away by Stephano Mallardo.
Moments later, Johnny Kerridge had a high shot spilled by Craig Brand, but the Bury ‘keeper recovered and claimed the ball at the second attempt.
Team Bury made their first substitute: Dan Hammett made way for Fabian Horrocks, in the 41st minute.
Both sides had one more attempt each in the final stages: Bury had a shot headed away by Stephano Mallardo and Josh Kerridge, while Gianfranco Mallardo had a great curling effort saved by Brand.

Kawaguchi’s long ball met David Lampshire, in the 47th minute, which was blocked by Alfie Carroll for a corner. The ball was crossed in by Jed Wigley, towards Matt Collins, who had his shot blocked, with Fabian Horrocks’ rebound effort also blocked. The loose ball was finally pelted away by Alfie Carroll.
In the 49th minute, Johnny Kerridge sent the ball into Jordan Brazitis’ path on the far wing, and was crossed into the box, only for Jarrod Lebbon to clear the ball. Harry Seal won the ball back, and had an excellent long range effort parried away by Craig Brand.
However, Josh Kerridge fouled Alfie Bedingham, and the ref awarded Bury a free-kick, after 53 minutes. However, the free-kick was no trouble for Sudbury, as Louis Johnson calmly collected the ball.
AFC’s first substitute of the evening saw Johnny Kerridge come off for Tom Wingfield (56’).
Tom Wingfield immediately made an impact as a long ball was
crossed into the box towards Mark Ray, who saw a header deflected by Craig
Brand who was outside his area, and the ball fell to Tom Wingfield, who had his
shot towards the empty goal blocked by Jordan Gooch.
Team Bury’s second alteration saw Jordan Stannard make way for Jody Scowcroft, in the 66th minute. Scowcroft made an impact for Bury, as he was released into the box, and had a shot curve wide of Louis Johnson’s goal, moments after entering the field.
Harry Seal came off for Ross Brazitis, for AFC in the 70th minute.
Tom Wingfield continued to trouble to Bury defense, as Joe Chester played the ball to Mark Ray, who crossed the ball into the box towards Wingfield, but the effort was cleared by Bury.
Bury’s final change of the evening saw Alfie Bedingham replaced by Scott McGavin (78’), before Jordan Brazitis came off for Sam Ross for the hosts.
Ross made an impact for the hosts, as he played the ball to Mark Ray, who released Tom Wingfield into the box, and saw his left-footed effort beat Bury keeper Craig Brand, to give AFC the lead, at the end of the match.
Late on, Gianfranco Mallardo was booked for the hosts, but AFC held on for the victory over their Suffolk opponents.
It was a great result for Sudbury, with a much improved performance compared to Saturday's defeat to Melford. The Yellows will take a break this Saturday, and return to action on Easter Monday as they host Halstead Town (k/o 3pm, Wardale-Williams Stadium).
