AFC sign Brightlingsea youngster

AFC Sudbury have signed Brightlingsea Regent striker George Clarke.

The 19-year-old leaves Regent following a ten-month spell at North Road, after joining from Needham Market in January.

The forward, who started his career at Brantham Athletic as a teenager, has played representative matches for Suffolk FA, at Under-16s level, and Under-18s level.

After he spent several years at Needham Market, Clarke was offered a scholarship at Ipswich Town's Academy. He played for Town in a FA Youth Cup match against Sunderland before he rejoined Needham Market.

In October 2014, he moved to Thurlow Nunn Premier side Hadleigh United, before moving to Brightlingsea during the winter transfer window last season.

Clarke featured in Sudbury Reserves' 6-1 home defeat to Wivenhoe Town on Friday, where he played alongside manager Jamie Godbold.

Godbold told the club website that he felt Clarke has 'a lot of potential'.

Clarke could feature against his former club, Brightlingsea Regent, when the two sides meet at the Wardale-Williams Stadium on Tuesday (7.45pm KO, Ryman North).
