FA Cup to trial fourth substitute in later rounds

THE Football Association is set to trial a fourth substitute to be used in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final of the Emirates FA Cup this season.

The International Football Association Board, an international football law-making body, are carrying out a global study to see how a fourth player alteration would be used during extra time.

This means a fourth player substitution could be carried out by managers during the 'extra-time' period.

The format has been trialled at this year's Copa America cup tournament.

Currently, only three substitutes can be used, but the FA proposes to add a fourth alteration for this season's English cup.
