Sudbury once again played two friendlies on the same evening. Sudbury's game with Newmarket saw Paul Betson receive his testimonial match. Bantick, French, Cunningham and Callander were on the score-sheet in a 6-3 win for the Yellows over 'the Jockeys', on the new 3G pitch at the Cricket Field Road pitch. Elsewhere, a Sudbury side at Godmanchester saw the Yellows play out a 2-2 draw with their Thurlow Nunn League hosts.
Southend United fell to their first pre-season defeat, as they lost 2-0 to a strong Newcastle United side. Dutch striker Vurnon Anita gave the Toons the lead, shortly from the restart with an excellent effort, while Yoan Gouffran swept the ball home with a calm finish to double the visitor's lead.
Ipswich Town were denied on multiple attempts, as they played out a goal-less stalemate at London side Charlton Athletic. Brett Pitman hit the crossbar and woodwork multiple times, with home keeper Dillion Phillips played his part to deny Town from any goals.
Colchester fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat on Monday, as they lost to FA Cup finalists Crystal Palace. Jordon Mutch sidefooted an effort off the crossbar, in the only goal of the match. Tom Wynter had an effort cleared off the line for U's, after Porter heads his effort against the crossbar. On Tuesday, Colchester's U21s comfortably beat Needham Market 6-0.
