Redbridge player denies assault during Sudbury fixture

Former Redbridge forward William Drake has denied assault on an AFC Sudbury volunteer and using abusive behaviour towards supporters during a match in February.

Sudbury were victorious against Redbridge on 27th Feburary 2016, winning 5-1, in a home match at the Wardale-Williams Stadium, where Drake caused issues after being dismissed from the match.

The 27-year-old was alleged to have assaulted volunteer Thomas Crofton, as well as using threatening behaviour towards spectators after being sent off for elbowing Sudbury defender Ryan Henshaw, during the fixture.

In addition, the Londoner damaged a fire extinguisher at the stadium.

He appeared at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court this week following a police investigation, and pleaded guilty to the above three charges.

Drake will appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court in November, this year.

Redbridge have not released any statements since the incident.
