Report: AFC Sudbury Essex Res 4-2 Barkingside Reserves



A brace from Callum Vincent helped AFC Sudbury to a 4-2 win over Barkingside Reserves, in the Essex Senior Reserve League.

The Yellows started the match strong, when an early cross from Callum Vincent met Ryan McNicholas, but he saw his shot blocked.

Joe Copping produced a nice effort afterwards, although the ball was captured well by the visiting goalkeeper.

Ryan McNicholas gave AFC Sudbury the lead, as a deflected Barkingside clearance fell into his path, and he calmly finished in a one-on-one situation after 14 minutes.

Two minutes after, Kane Munday has a good chance blocked well by ‘Side.

At the other end, goalkeeper Louis Johnson produced a good save to deny the visitors with an equalizer. The resulting corner was cleared well by Craig Avery.

Callum Vincent saw his shot at a tight angled blocked well by Side, while a floating header by Milo Grimes parried away, just before the half-hour mark.

Sam Mills did well to divert the ball away, following a good Barkingside chance, on 36 minutes.

AFC Goalkeeper Louis Johnson continued to keep AFC in the match, as he dived down well to block a Barkingside shot.

Sudbury continued to outplay their hosts in the early stages of the second half, and extended their lead on 47, when Milo Grimes struck an excellent effort home past the Barkingside goalkeeper.

And two minutes after, Callum Vincent unleashed an excellent strike from outside the box, which landed in the top right corner of the net, to give AFC Sudbury a 3-0 lead.

The visitors looked to get back into the game, and had several attempts well saved by Louis Johnson, including a shot blocked on the line.

In the 58th minute, Barkingside won a penalty but the striker fired the spot-kick over Johnson’s goal.

Callum Vincent earned his second goal of the match as he smashed his free-kick in the back of the net, to put AFC 4-0 ahead on 66 minutes.

However, Barkingside got back into the game, and scored twice in the latter stages of the match to decrease Sudbury’s lead, but the Yellows held on for a well-deserved victory.

The Yellows are next in Essex Senior action on Sat 7th Jan, when they travel to Waltham Abbey.
