REPORT: AFC Sudbury Res 1-1 March Town Utd

An injury time winner from Jake Colclough helped AFC Sudbury Res draw 1-1 with March Town United at the Wardale-Williams Stadium.

The defender struck home in the second minute of injury time to secure a worthy draw against the Cambridgeshire visitors.

March side won a corner in the early stages, after Joe Walker cleared away Max Mattless's cross. The corner was cleared away by AFC, and Callum Fuller picked up the ball on the counter-attack and set-up Ollie Dunlop, who shot wide under pressure.

Rob Conyard looked to put the visitors ahead in the eighth minute when his shot went through the side netting and into the goal, but the effort was disallowed.

March Town saw a twelfth minute free-kick cleared away by the home side, and AFC produced another counter-attack, with Callum Fuller making a good run, before seeing his strike saved well by goalkeeper Dave Beeney.

Defender Baris Altintop produced a teasing effort to challenge Hares goalkeeper Dave Beeney, while Louis Johnson made an excellent stop at the back to deny March captain Max Mattless.

AFC looked to have taken the lead in the 24th minute as Ollie Dunlop calmly struck home past Beeney, but the play was marked offside.

March Town's Jack Brand had a neat effort parried away well by Johnson, with the resulting corner cleared by Altintop.

The Yellows produced another chance in the 36th minute, as Dunlop played the ball wide out to Ben Judge, who delivered the ball into the box, although it was cleared by March.

Jack Brand's free-kick for the visitors in the 38th minute was cleared away well by Callum Watson, allowing Callum Fuller to claim the ball and race forward; however, his effort was cleared.

Jack Brand and Adam Conyard both had headers for the visitors in the closing stages of the half, neither of which threatened Johnson in the AFC goal.

On the stroke of half-time, Ben Judge had an effort stopped by Dave Beeney, which an acrobatic rebound effort cleared away.

Half-time: AFC Sudbury Res 0-0 March Town United

Jake Colclough looked to put the Yellows in front, as he was left in a one-on-one with Hares goalkeeper Beeney, but the shot was struck wide of goal, following a good delivery from Callum Watson.

The visitors threatened throughout the second half, with a looping header from Lewis Thompson struck over the bar, and Rob Conyard's low shot blocked by AFC.

However, the Hares took the lead in the 62nd minute, as debutant Toby Allen headed home Archie Murfitt's cross at a tight angle, following good work by Robert Conyard.

The home side looked to get back into the match, with an unlucky effort from Callum Watson floating over the bar.

Furthermore, an AFC corner, delivered well by Watson, was scooped away by Beeney on 73.

The home side were desperate to score, with efforts from Callum Fuller and Jack Colclough narrowly missing the target.

Louis Johnson produced a great block in the first minute of injury time, after denying Jack Brand at close range.

That save proved to be pivotal, as in the final moments of the match, Jake Colclough received the ball down the right wing and struck a looping effort into the back of the net over Dave Beeney, to give AFC a late equalizer.

In the final kick of the game, March looked to score a late winner, as Lewis Thompson sent a free-kick into the box, but the effort was cleared, and AFC held on for a draw.

Once again, the Reserve team produced a good performance, and a draw was the least they deserved in an even affair.
