A goal in each half helped AFC Sudbury to a comfortable 2-0 win over Waltham Abbey Reserves, in the Essex Senior Reserve League on Saturday.
Aaron Pengelly slotted home in the early stages from Hemson’s pass in the first half, before Kie Dyer slotted home after a great run from Pengelly, midway through the second half.
The visitors started well, and saw an early cross from the number 2 directed just wide of Robinson’s goal.
The Yellows won a corner in the third minute, as Dyer delivered the ball to Callum Hemson, who was unlucky, as he shot just over the bar. Meanwhile, Abbey had a further effort blocked by Carrigan.
It was AFC who took the lead, in the eighth minute, as a nice ball from Callum Hemson met Aaron Pengelly who turned and shot first time past the goalkeeper for 1-0.
The home side continued to play well defensively, with AFC keeper Callum Robinson keeping out numerous efforts, including a corner.
Sudbury’s Kade Ivatt came close in the 20th minute, while free-kicks from both sides were both cleared away. Sam Bishop also saw a shot blocked well.
However, Danny Laws was forced to make an alteration, with Tom Prentice picking up an injury, and was replaced by Baris Altintop on 37’.

The visitors dominated the early stages of the second period, with the ball fired over the bar, only twenty seconds in.
Baris Altintop made a pivotal clearance in the 50th minute, as he cleared the ball away after AFC keeper Callum Robinson ran out of his area.
Sudbury kept defending well, with multiple attempts blocked and cleared, with the visitors unable to convert their chances.
A free-kick from AFC’s Sam Bishop was sent into the box well towards Baris Altintop who directed his header just wide of the goal.
The home side looked to extend their lead, and their dominance paid off in the 78th minute, as Aaron Pengelly made an excellent run down the right wing, and crossed to Kie Dyer who tapped home.
Abbey produced their share of efforts, but they were unable to convert their chances, with number 8 and number 11 coming close in the latter stages.
Sam Bishop timed a tackle well to deny a clear Waltham chance on 83, while a free-kick in the 88th minute was parried away well by Robinson.
