Matchnight Round-up: Tue 04 Apr 2017

Ipswich Town eased their relegation fears as they defeated relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic at Portman Road on Tuesday evening.

The Blues went into the evening winless in their previous eight matches, but a brace from Freddie Sears after David McGoldrick's opening goal helped them see off the Latics.

Town are now nine points clear of the relegation zone, easing some pressure off boss Mick McCarthy.

Meanwhile, Southend United were left disappointed as an injury time strike from Mark Beevers send Bolton returning to Manchester with a 1-0 win at Roots Hall.

Blues boss Phil Brown was sent to the stands late on, following his protests when Nile Ranger's penalty appeal was waved away.

Nile Ranger did well to make a goal-line clearance to deny Gary Madine, while a similar situation saw Ranger have his effort cleared by Wheater, at the other end.

The visitors also hit the post on several occasions, but struck late to deny Southend, who remain in the play-offs on goal-difference.
