Report: AFC Sudbury 0-7 Heybridge Swifts Reserves (Essex Senior Reserve League)

AFC Sudbury Academy 0-7 Heybridge Swifts Reserves

A young AFC Sudbury side fell to a heavy defeat in the hands of Heybridge Swifts Reserves.

Sudbury started well, as Jacob Lay played the ball forward to Baris Altintop who produced a good cross, although nobody was able to strike home.

Lay produced another effort in the 10th minute which looped over the bar.

However, the visitors rallied into the lead as Heybridge's number 8 headed home from a good cross after 15 minutes, before number 7 fired in the bottom right corner for 2-0, three minutes later.

Alfie Cerulli saw a direct effort from a free-kick claimed by the visiting goalkeeper on 23, but Swifts extended their lead on 28 minutes with a close range effort.

The Yellows continued to produce efforts, with Gardiner and Buckles coming close.

The Essex visitors went in at the break five-nil up as further efforts beat AFC keeper Child.

Half-time: AFC Sudbury 0-5 Heybridge Swifts Reserves

The home side started strong, with efforts from Jacob Lay and Alfie Cerulli not quite beating the Heybridge goalkeeper.

Swifts made it six-nil on 54 minutes, as Curtis Child did well to block the original shot, but he was beaten by the rebound effort.

Joe Copping was replaced by Sam Bishop, as the hosts made their first change on 55. Josh Buckles was replaced by Isaac Skubich in the 59th minute. George Tatum was replaced by Alex Erediauwa in the 69th minute.

Jacob Lay came closest to scoring for the hosts, as he struck inches wide of the Swifts' goal, while substitute Skubich hit the side netting with a close-range strike. Adam Hanson also tested the visiting goalkeeper with a well-taken effort.

AFC won a free-kick on the edge of the box, as Alex Erediauwa saw the shot blocked by the large Heybridge wall.

The visitors ended the afternoon with a seventh goal, as a 90th minute penalty beat Curtis Child, despite the AFC keeper going the right way.
