Southend's new keeper makes EFL team of week

Southend United's new goalkeeper Christian Walton made the Sky Bet EFL team of the week, in association with FIFA 17.

The England U21s player joined the Shrimpers on Saturday morning on an emergency loan deal from Brighton, and helped Blues to a 3-0 win over Oldham - keeping a clean sheet in the process.

Walton stepped in for Ted Smith, who picked up a wrist injury.

The Cornwall-born keeper played youth football at Plymouth and Brighton before signing a senior contract with the Seagulls. He went on to play for Oldham, Bury and Luton.

He has played for England at U19s, U20s and U21s level, most recently appearing in a 5-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
