Former Southend loanee Hendrie rejoins Blues

Southend United have signed West Ham defender Stephen Hendrie on a permanent two-year contract.

The 22-year-old played five games for the Blues in 2016 season, during a loan spell at Roots Hall, scoring against Shrewsbury.

The Scottish player has played international football at under-17s, under-19s and under-21s level.

Hendrie started his career at Hamilton Academical, before moving to Premier League side West Ham in 2015. He went on to have loan spells with the Blues and Blackburn Rovers.

In the past few weeks, Phil Brown has also signed Sonny Coutts, Norman Wabo, Renei Batlokwa, Joe Bedford and Josh Bexton from the club's youth setup, while Anton Ferdinand and John White have also extended their deals with the club.
